my net got suspended from this torrent at around 75% - got a fancy email about infringement blah blah - not sure if it was just terrible luck or if this is an actively monitored torrent.
Did you have your email in full view. How would they email you. That is a crock of crap that you were contacted about this torrent. If that is true which i highly disbelieve, It is time to get an IP Filter.

What does that mean exactly? "ACTIVELY MONITORED"
It means that HBO calls your house, and your ISP, tells you to stop, or they're gonna shut off your internet and sue you. I think this only applies in America, however. Wherever HBO has pull.

It's possible actually. I used to be with a provider here (Cox Communications), and I had my service suspended for around a month for a movie download (was a shitty movie also.. haha). Ended up switching to Windstream (another provider), they're fairly new and I don't think they give a rats ass. Downloaded over 100 movies, and about 5 full tv shows; no suspensions yet.
Movie companies really hit bigger providers harder, so you gotta go for the smaller, and newer providers!

No guarantees, but for those of you worrying about getting suspended over downloading movies, try a program such as Peer Guardian and leave it running when your Bit Torrent client is running. They update frequently and block a lot of ISP's.
P.S. - It's always the crappiest movies that end up landing you the dreaded notice. I got one a couple years ago for "Alpha Dog".

i got cox communications ive downloaded 200 gigs in the last 2 months
lochlan-munro, I had the same problem, what u do is you drag the clip and drop it in to vuze or which ever program ur using and you can just press play from there.
finally catchin up to the show on TV. thank for the upload, ill seed for ya...

CHECK ENCRYPTION ON in uTorrent so ISP can't know what you do. Not need to pay for a 3rd party proxy like peer guardian which does just the same!

some people just try to scare others especialy when they say that they got a call from HBO and lost thier internet, but at the same post at piratebay. Its laughable!

I got warned one time by comcast for going over 250GB/month. Ive never heard anyone I trust say theyve gotten one of these letters. P.S.-I do not run PG2 because I can not get it to update on Win7.

@Naria- First of all, HBO is not calling you. The only way your ISP is going to give up your personal information is if there is a court order to do so. Most ISP's have a policy that if you are in violation of their terms and agreements three times, then they can drop you from using their service. The email you receive is forwarded to you. Your ISP receives it first and then sends it to you. That's the policy in the US.
At this point in time, is this thread still being monitored???
